Gambar pasar ampuh ...

Tu meh gaya jalai-jalai ke dipansa tua menyanak tadi maya nengah Jalai Salim, Jalai Wong King Huo, jalai mua Sacred Heart, etc ... Gambar diambi Val. Aba jalai besai, ai lebih kurang 1 kaki; tang ke dalam nangka punggung ie kira-kira 3 kaki, ngelamun kereta!

Pictures taken as we driving through the major roads in Sibu. Some portions of the major roads are under about 1 feet of water; but the distributary roads like Belian, Tiong Hua, etc ... submerged real bad! Val was excited and took all these pictures as we took a wet afternoon drive!

Mad Rush for Food ...

Aku tu baru pulai ari kedai besai Farley, dia dik orang gila berbeli ke pemakai nuh berkotak-kotak! Dagih ke aku takut ke ai ampuh balat amat ditu! Siko orang peda aku meli tusu chap junjung 10 tin besai - empa sebulan nya!! Ni enda ambis stok! Sayur enda iboh disebut, aku tu enggau orang berebut ke retak panjai tadi!! hahahaha lucu endal! Udah ditepu aku alam plastik, lalu diambi indu tuai cina! Chelabut lah aku bejaku poooooochau sampai iya ngeleka ke plastik aku! Sengaja, ngumbai aku ilap mimit, ambis lah retak aku tadi dikebas iya!! hahahaha mar ngah retaknya tadi RM8.60 ambis segengam jari (ngelama tu baroh ari RM4.00).

There is a mad rush to buy food at my regular supermarket today!! I just got back from my regular marketing (weekly) ritual and noticed ladies were buying boxes and boxes of food! My daughter reminded me that we should also get a lot of food; when we noticed one lady took 10 large cans of condensed milk - enough for 1 month ration!! At this rate, Farley will be "empty" in a couple of days!! I just bought a week's supply! Although I did had to 'fight' for my long beans, when it was snatched by another! lol hilarious; food fight - the adult way!! Definitely there is shortage of fresh vegetables, and the price escalates rediculously high!

Sibu water level at noon today is 3.35m and rising!

Sibu ampuh!!

Gambar gaya Jalai Lanang jam 10 pagi tu, diambi Val.
Pictures of Lanang Road at 10am today, taken by Val.
Paras ai di Sibu 3.25m jam 9 malam tu tadi! Niki ngagai 3.30m jam 9:30 malam.

Sehari-hari tu menoa kami tu banjir teruk; sekeda rumah panjai di Selangau ampuh serta bisi mega ditimpa tanah runtuh. Beberapa hari tu; orang ai nulong nganjung ai ngagai sekula ke endor bala beteduh! Kasih amat meda! Paras ai semakin niki!
Aku tu enda berani dreba ke luar; enggai ke mengkang di tengah jalai. Semina ninga reput ari bala staf ketegal ke endor pam ai nuka aba paras bahaya!
Water level has risen from 3.25m to 3.3m in half an hour since 9pm. This is probably one of the worst flood situation in the State; although Sibu had experienced several floods over the last decade. In neighboring district of Selanggau, floods coupled with landslides are affecting lots of longhouses where they had to be evacuated to centers. We have been helping in a small way by supplying them with water from Sibu.
Since this morning, I had not ventured outside my house/office as I didn't want to be stuck in traffic or have my babe' (car) to 'kong' on me on the road!

Happy Chinese New Year ...

Chinese New Year will be in a couple of days; and my daughter is really excited & looking forward to the celebration. Also the fact that her birthday will fall on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year.

Its the year of the animal 牛 Ox!

Our plans for the celebration will probably be:
  • new year eve dinner at uncle's house
  • 1st & 2nd days will be spent visiting friends' houses which include my best friends, my boss (he and his family never missess visiting me during Gawai at the longhouse), and some colleagues/associates, and
  • 2nd day ~ celebrating daughter's birthday with her best friends (with sleepover) and family.

Annually, we have reunion dinner on New Year's Eve with my uncle's family and so I guess this year will be no different!! It would time for me to catch up with their news and literally noticed how much I have 'matured' (hehehehe tua lah tu!!) when everyone is now older, bigger & taller!. The New Year's Eve dinner is very sumptuous, plentiful, and traditionally (chief chef is Aunty Wong, an EXCELLENT cook) which usually includes crabs, duck, vegetables, chicken and fish (simplified Chinese: 鱼; traditional Chinese: 魚; pinyin: yú). They usually ensure there's some fish leftovers for the next day, as the Chinese phrase "may there be surpluses every year" (traditional Chinese: 年年有餘; simplified Chinese: 年年有余; pinyin: nián nián yǒu yú) sounds the same as "may there be fish every year."

Red envelopes are what children love the most or SINGLE adult! It is interesting to receive the various designs of red packet/ ang pow. This would be the highlight of my daughter's visits!!! Not only does she loves receiving ang pow, she also loves receiving the varying design! I remember when I was in Taipei last year, my friend took me to all the interesting shops selling the red packets because he wanted to buy the special design for his celebration!

What is the tradition of Red Envelope? Traditionally, Red envelopes or red packets (Cantonese: lai shi or lai see) (利是, 利市 or 利事); (Mandarin: 'hóng bāo' (紅包); Hokkien: 'ang pow' (POJ: âng-pau); Hakka: 'fung bao'; are passed out during the Chinese New Year's celebrations, from married couples or the elderly to children or singles. Red packets are also known as 壓歲錢/压岁钱 (Ya Sui Qian, which was evolved from 壓祟錢/压祟钱, literally, the money used to suppress or put down the evil spirit ) during this period. Red packets almost always contain money, usually varying from a couple of dollars to several hundred. Per custom, the amount of money in the red packets should be of even numbers. The amount ranges from RM3.00 to RM11.00; where the lower amount is the most common; except at my best friends' & boss houses as they usually give more to my daughter! :D
